First formed in 1990 by Glenn and Ally Smith, MYRIAD is currently
in its fifth stage of evolution. Present members comprise GlennSmith (vocals, lead
guitar, mandolin, harmonica), Mike Jurgensen (vocals, rhythm guitar), Mindy
Simmons ( vocals, guitar), and Pete Hennings (bass). Mindy is our latest addition to the band - a singer-songwriter par excellance, who is
already known as a solo performer around the state of Florida, with a great wit and
charming personality to boot! Founding member Ally Smith has recently
left the band to pursue her solo projects, and to devote time to the two other bands she performs with, Rosewood Station and Desert Rain.
MYRIAD has performed in the Tampa Bay area and around the state of Florida in numerous coffee houses, concert halls, festivals, and radio programs. They have performed concerts at the Iron Horse in Tarpon Springs, the Cleveland Street Coffee House and the Octagon Arts Center in Clearwater, Studio Art Center in Crystal River, The Packing House & Sullivan's in Sarasota, Bay area Barnes and Noble Bookstores, and numerous other local venues, as well as venues in Miami, Boca Raton, Hobe Sound, Orlando, Ft. Myers, Eustis and Punta Gorda. They have also performed at festivals around the state, including the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs, The Will McLean Festival, The South Florida Folk Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, The Barberville Jamboree, The Suwannee Springfest, The Gamble Rogers Festival, The Heritage Park Arts Festival and Pinellas Folk Festival in St. Petersburg, and The Spring Arts Festival in Gainesville. MYRIAD has performed and been interviewed many times on 88.5 - WMNF-FM in Tampa, and several times on 91.3 - WLRN-FM in Miami.
As the name suggests, MYRIAD plays to a wide range of musical tastes, from folk to Celtic, jazz, blues, Doo-wop, and country. They perform original songs and songs written by Bay area and other Florida songwriters, as well as interpreting covers by such artists as Nancy Griffith, John Gorka, Shawn Colvin, Cheryl Wheeler, and Kate Wolf, to name a few. MYRIAD has produced three studio tapes ( "Myriad", "Song Circle", and "New Strings" ), and a live tape (recorded in concert at the Iron Horse). "New Strings" is now available on CD, and features 3 bonus songs from "Song Circle" as well.
